Thank you for restoring and rededicating the Civil War Monument in Riverdale. In the 1950’2 and 60’s the neighborhood kids on Wheeler St. would walk to the Riverdale Methodist Church with Lilacs on the eve of Memorial Day. There we joined other members of the community with the Riverdale Drum and Bugle Corps. and we would march to the Civil War Memorial for services, prayers and songs. We would leave small flags and lilacs at the memorial. Then we marched up to the Cemetary on Wesley St. and left flags and lilacs on the markers of the veterans. Do they still celebrate Memorial Day in Riverdale as we once did?
