As a boy I attended the East Gloucester Primary School , located at the corners of Chapel and Davis St.s. Each Memorial Day, grades 1-4, would march from the school to the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and have a memorial service. There would be singing, laying of wreaths on the monument and then we would all march back to the school and go home. This was around 1939 -1941. I don’t remember when the service started or when it ended.
I hope this helps.
