  1. Gloucester, geographically, is very special, along with its uniqueness, of course, is another side ~ Politics of this Parking sticker, Joe had to go “digging for it” after a bright woman told him about it. Regarding shopping int this town ~ Having any parking meters at all , discourages “shopping in Gloucester” ~ I was born & raised here ~ then moved “away” ~ Returned in 1999, for family and the geography and have received a few parking tickets ~ ludicrous ones ~ and so I try very very, very hard not to shop in Gloucester’s Main St area ~ on general prinicipal ~ Even Rockport has the good sense to “remove the parking meters at Xmas shopping time” ~ Manchester has no parking meters & there are many malls around to shop & now the internet ~ I pay plenty of property taxes to Gloucester, plus, a beach sticker & trash bags & in return I have problems with water & sewerage at times, have to “truck my trash down to the end of my street and so on! ~ Why would I want to spend more money to park on Main St for only a “handful” of good shops & restaraunts????? Insane town in an insane world ~ I am insane to have moved back here ~ Still grateful for where I live and will stay until it is time for me to leave the planet, I guess ~ Shop in Gloucester? I think not.

    1. I completely disagree with you. We have fantastic shop owners and restaurants and coffee shops downtown. There is a limited number of places to park so teh meters are also a way to make the spaces available for shoppers to park instead of people parking there and not moving their car for days.

  2. wow! I can’t believe anyone would punish business owners for their own grievances with the town government!! Gloucester has more than a “handful” of decent shops- one can do their entire holiday shopping down here- and get a fabulous meal to boot! Aside from the meters- and there are 10 hour meters for those who do not wish to run back to their car every 2 hours, there is free parking at the st peters lot- and there is a bus that one can pick up at the outskirts of town and take in. I think if peole were to give the downtown a look over at least once a month they would be surprised at the variety of wonderful stores- restaurants and businesses eagerly awaiting the chance to prove themselves to the locals.
