Becoming Dad

So last night I went into town to take one of my best friends, the Rabbit out for dinner to celebrate his birthday.

I don’t know when it hapened but the City of Boston has extended the parking meter feeding times to 8PM and that was coupled with a two hour maximum time that the meters will take the money around Boston Common area and Newbury Street.  So once you feed your two pounds of quarters (if you can find them in your car) and head off to dinner, you have it stuck in your head that you have to make sure you walk all the way back and feed that meter.   It was freezing cold and not a pleasant walk back to feed the meter although dinner at PF Changs and Finale for dessert was great and the Rabbit is always fun to hang out with.  I guess I could have parked in a garage and not worried about it and next time I will.

The point of all this rambling I guess is that when I was in my 20’s and early thirties I would go into Boston every week to tear shit up and never once thought about how much it cost to park.  Never once.

I remember when I was young hearing my father grumble about the cost of going into Boston and thinking that it was never a deterrent to me but now the drive in and parking situation has put a tiny little ding in the shiny allure of heading into the the City for a night out.

  1. I suppose just living 5 miles outside of Boston and working there much of my adult life you take it for granted. I never found it a hassle until not working there since 1999, I went back to work in So. Boston in 2006. I never missed Boston during the time away and actually find the very short commute less pleasant than when I commuted to Nashua NH! Boston never held much of an allure since the Gloucester bug bit me. When I went to Stage Fort Park 4 years ago for the first time since I was a kid, I was hooked. I am very drawn to Cape Ann and love everything about it – the scenery and just the good feeling I have when I’m there.
    Cape Ann rocks.
