Joe I voted on your filthy rotten pigs question. It was difficult deciding exactly where you found this stuff because all the choices seemed so similar. That being said, I think I chose the correct location!

Normally I wouldn’t say anything but it drives me absolutely nuts that people think it’s ok to flick these disgusting things to the ground right in front of you. IN PLAIN SIGHT!!!!!!!!
FFS where do they think they are gonna go? Do they think there is a magic cigarette butt elf that will swing through at night and pick the things up?
Do they not have to traverse that very same sidewalk day after day to go to work? Do they not see the vile mess they consciously leave on our Downtown Main Street? The street that most of us use, in the heart of the city?
Where’s the outrage?
Fuckers!

I told you before this disgusts me. The more I think about it, the more I think you should start posting head shots to go along with the butts!
Magic cigarette butt elf, classic!

You’re too young to remember this but back when I was in my 20’s, we could smoke anywheres we wanted to–banks, malls, grocery stores, hospital rooms–ANYwheres. And we did. Most of the time there were ashtrays available. But you would still see people grinding them out under foot in all the above locations.

Smoking does not bother me at all. What bothers me is the littering.
Especially THE ACT OF LITTERING right in front of me while recognizing my presence.

…Thanks for posting that… I sweep the front of my store every day… and I am amazed at the number of cigarettes that I sweep up… EVERYDAY! Those who do throw their butts out the window should be mindful of the dry leaves this time of year also…

Last year I asked the manager of the store in question why they did nothing to beautify the area around the trees in front of her business. She replied that “that area is owned by the city, let them take care of it”. We shouldn’t get worked up (Joey!) about one burnt-out manager’s attitude; what we should get worked up about is that no one in a position of responsibility in Gloucester has leaned on the CVS Corporate Office of Public Relations to spend a dollar (as have ma and pa retailers on Main St.) to make the street look pretty. Has our Mayor? Has our Chamber of Commerce? Has our Downtown Development Commission? Has the director of our Office of Tourism? Has the Cruise Ship Promoter? As Amy Winestein would say, No no no.

Isn’t a fine imposed for littering? If they had to pay, I bet they would find a receptacle for the butts real fast. Then fine the business that don’t provide a butt receptacle. And don’t let them stand right in front of the door to the business – I hate it when smoke gets all in my hair and makes me smell smokey bad! Smokers may smoke all they want – not my issue; but be polite about it.

I remember being a little kid in the 70’s when everyone smoked. Gross then, gross now! My grandfather wore trousers with cuffs and when there wasn’t an ashtray around, he’d pinch out his cigarette and tuck it into his pants cuff till he could find a place!
